Two Horses, One Book and 74 First Graders “Read On”

First graders, teachers, books and horses.

George and Chiquita loved handing out books to first graders at Highland Park Elementary last year.  On February 28, Batman and Doc will get a turn as librarians thanks to a grant from Devon Energy.   Devon bought two books for every child through Horse Tales Literacy.  Stay tuned for pictures!!!

As you can imagine, having horses with books come to school is pretty exciting, but for these kids, the thrills are just beginning.

On April 28
, they come out to for a special Field Day to read to horses and gallop through other horse activities.  AND…they each get a second book: “Little Black Goes to the Circus.”

Last year’s participants said it was the “best field trip EVER!”  The students fell in love with books and horses.  The result: all were reading above grade level.
